I’m sure everyone here has figured out a way to read the nytimes for free, but something I’ve noticed is if you put it in the chinese edition it turns off the paywall and you can click on the stories and hit 中英双语 to read it side by side in english and chinese

https://ublockorigin.com/ Disabling 3rd party scripts often works, 1st party sometimes. Notably the Washington Post will not work without disabling 1st party, the Chicago Tribune will work with 3rd, etc.
