So, today I learned something about the Bambu Lab X1 Series that should probably have been obvious. If you’re running a multi-object print and encounter failures on specific objects, there’s a feature on the printer that can save your print from disaster: Object Skip.
Why Use Object Skip?
When printing multiple objects, failures such as a model falling off the plate or collapsing can lead to dreaded spaghetti. Instead of scrapping the entire print, you can use the Object Skip feature to de-select failing objects and allow the printer to continue printing the remaining models. This not only saves your print but also avoids wasting filament.
here in the full documentation
How It Works:
- On the print screen, locate the Object Skip button (pictured below, highlighted in red).
- Tap the button to view all objects currently being printed.
- Select the object(s) causing issues—these will turn red to indicate they’ve been skipped.
- The printer will skip the Gcode for the selected objects and continue printing the rest.
Here’s the button I’m talking about:
Important Notes:
- Firmware/Software Requirements: Ensure your printer firmware and Bambu Studio versions support this feature. Check the compatibility list here in the full documentation.
- Thumbnails Required: If your print job lacks a thumbnail (e.g., sent via SD card or missing from the cloud), the Skip feature won’t work.
- Multi-Color Prints: If skipping objects during a multi-color print, the wipe tower will still be printed, even if the highest part is skipped.
- Time-Lapse Feature: The tool head may continue movements associated with time-lapse photography, even when objects are skipped.
Why I Used It:
I was printing several objects and noticed one failed, likely due to wet filament. Rather than canceling the entire print, I used this feature to skip the problematic object. This saved the remaining prints and saved me time and material.
Additional Context:
This feature works because each object in a multi-object plate is assigned a unique Gcode segment during slicing. Skipping an object tells the printer to ignore that segment. While this can leave some extra traveling movements, it ensures the rest of your print isn’t affected.
Tips:
- Use the Handy App: For some models like the A1 and P1 series, you can only enable Object Skip via the app.
- Re-Print Specific Parts: You can also selectively re-print objects from a completed print job using the print history in the Handy app.
This feature is a total lifesaver for multi-object prints. If you’ve got tips or experiences with this, feel free to share below!
